01 — About the Client

Who RAISE Global Health Is

RAISE is a consultancy collective with a unique intersectional, decolonial, and feminist approach to global health. Their mission is to centre the voices, needs, and expertise of people impacted by global health initiatives — applying a participatory framework that prioritizes equity, justice, and collective well-being.

Their expertise spans Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR), feminist global health, intersectional gender equity, and the decolonization of global health systems.

🌍 Their Vision

A world where global health prioritizes the voices of all people — co-creating solutions that are sustainable, equitable, and transparent. A decolonized future where equity comes first.

🎯 The Ask

Create a graphic illustration system to visually communicate four core organizational values — for use on their website, digital pamphlets, and broader branding. Also design a homepage splash illustration.

02 — Process & Collaboration

Working Remotely Across Time Zones

This project was conducted entirely remotely with a team based in the Netherlands — through video calls, shared feedback documents, and iterative review cycles with multiple rounds of drafts before each illustration was approved.

PHASE 01

Discovery & Alignment

Initial meetings to understand RAISE's mission and the visual language they gravitated toward. We aligned on clean linework with warm accents — accessible and purposeful.

PHASE 02

Concept & Drafts

Early sketches for each illustration were shared for feedback. Multiple revision rounds refined figures, color accents, and compositions to match RAISE's intersectional values.

PHASE 03

Final Illustrations

Four finalized illustrations: Research, Medicine, Global Equity, and Community. Delivered in formats ready for web, print, and digital pamphlets.

PHASE 04

Homepage Design

A splash illustration for their homepage — welcoming, human-centered, reflecting their collaborative and feminist ethos.

03 — The Illustrations

Four Core Values, Four Visuals

Each illustration stands alone and works as part of a system. Clean linework, muted green and terracotta accents, and a light ground create visual consistency while letting each value have its own character.

04 — Character System

People at the Center

A diverse cast of characters was developed to accompany the illustration system — representing the full range of people RAISE serves globally. The figures appear across all materials, emphasizing RAISE's intersectional, human-centered approach.

What I Took Away

🌐 Remote International Collaboration

Working asynchronously with a team in the Netherlands taught me how to communicate design decisions clearly in writing — every draft needed thorough explanation given the built-in delay of feedback cycles.

🎨 Building a Visual System

Each illustration had to work independently and as a set. Establishing consistent linework weight, accent colors, and compositional logic early meant all four stayed coherent without losing individuality.

✊ Designing for Mission-Driven Work

Every visual choice carried weight — diversity of figures, warmth of accents, avoiding stereotyped imagery. Designing for an equity-centered organization means constantly interrogating your own defaults.

🔄 Iteration as Process

Multiple feedback rounds weren't friction — they were the work. Each round sharpened the illustrations, and learning to translate specific critique into visual decisions quickly was one of the most valuable skills I built here.
